Art Tutoring

One to One Art tutoring in a welcoming creative space run from my home studio in Saffron Walden. The informal domestic setting is designed to feel comfortable and inviting, rather than like a traditional classroom.

For Group Sessions and workshops I use lovely airy rooms at Fairycroft Arts Centre and The Old Sun Inn – both in central Saffron Walden with easy parking.

The Art Tutoring is run by me, Jessica. I am a practising artist with 30 years experience and tutor with 5 years’ experience delivering workshops in mainstream and SEN schools. I hold a degree in Art in a Community Context and English.

I have worked in primary schools teaching many techniques including monoprinting, collage, sculpture and painting, and in secondary schools teaching printmaking with Curwen Print Study Centre. I aim to provide individualised support, teaching in a way that suits how each child learns best, and creating a creative and experimental environment where every child feels understood, supported, and able to thrive.

I am Mum to two lovely boys, now grown, flown and thriving!

I have worked in film and TV art departments, as a Creative Producer for large live events, as a Creative Director/ Jewellery Designer (Scream Pretty and Lily Charmed) and I am regularly commissioned to make paintings and murals.

I love folklore! Last year I delivered a large community Art project for Culture Essex called Legendary Essex creating an archive of local folklore with postcard art made by residents of all ages at workshops across Essex.

Home Education and School Support

I offer 1:1 home art sessions for all children, including those who have experienced school-based anxiety, who are neuro divergent, or whose families have simply chosen to home educate.

These sessions are not constrained by curriculum based parameters, offering plenty of room for experimentation, personal growth and creative expression whilst naturally building skills in different mediums.

I can help students who are entered into GCSE or A level art with building their portfolios, and for students not doing GCSE art but considering A level or foundation level art. I can guide them in building a creative body of work, reflecting their interests without the pressure of exam style.

My ethos is that there is no ‘right or wrong’ in art, I enable exploration across many art techniques, with focus on enjoyment of the process of making art, and supporting the young artist in taking creative risks.

Email me at [email protected] for more information on one to one and group sessions.

“Our daughter has been taught by Jessica in weekly one-to-one art sessions for the past two years, where she has grown in confidence through Jessica’s inspirational guidance and encouragement. She has experimented with different techniques to express her creative mind onto paper and through three-dimensional creations. She has mono-printed; learned tetra pack printing; collaged; 3D modelled a beautiful tawny owl mask; and made sculptural pieces. She has produced some wonderful painted canvases and has developed her still life drawing and painting skills.

The happiness and joy that she comes home with are invaluable. From these sessions, her sense of self has grown over time and has spilled over into the rest of her life, giving her a feeling of strength and confidence to give things a go.

The power of art is a wonderful thing, and Jessica has the ability to bring out creativity in a safe and nurturing environment.”
